With a program stretching from Beethoven to Princess Leia, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will appear in concert as part of the Fine Arts Series at SUNY Brockport. The orchestra, under the baton of Paul Shewan, will appear at the Tower Fine Arts Center, 180 Holley Street, Brockport, on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 7:30 pm.

The overtures are covered by Glinka’s “Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila” and Verdi’s “Overture to La Forza del Destino,” both of which are concert favorites. The symphonies are highlighted by movements from Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7 in A Major” and Dvorák’s “New World Symphony.” Princess Leia is featured in a movement from John Williams’ “Star Wars: Suite for Orchestra.”

Most impressive, perhaps, will be the performance of a movement from Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto in G Minor.” The piece itself has been popular in symphonic concert repertoire since its 1866 premiere. However, at the Brockport performance, the soloist will be Hilton High School senior Luke Pisani. Pisani studies violin with Shannon Nance, assistant concertmaster of the RPO. He has played with the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra for six seasons and served as concertmaster, conducting apprentice, and twice won the HYSO concerto competition.

COVID Protocols 072022

Effective July 20, 2022:

In consultation with the Monroe County Department of Public Health and SUNY system administration, our campus will be following these COVID guidelines this fall, which are of course subject to change depending on changing circumstances:

All students are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19. Religious and medical exemptions are permitted, and students should follow the same process they followed in previous years when requesting an exemption.

All students who did not complete the primary COVID-19 vaccination series are required to participate in weekly surveillance testing. These individuals will be tested using a provided at-home test kit and will submit their results following the instructions on our COVID-19 website.

We strongly encourage all members of our community to receive the COVID-19 booster vaccination when eligible. Wegmans will be hosting an on-campus vaccination clinic Aug. 24-25. Registration is required. Registration information will be emailed soon.

Testing for students, faculty, and staff who are experiencing symptoms is available free of charge. Students should contact the Hazen Health Center. Employees should email

Face coverings are encouraged for individuals who are unvaccinated. It is important to remember that students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors may continue wearing face coverings for any number of reasons.  A face covering should not be interpreted as a symbol of vaccination status. Welcoming and accepting those who wear masks on campus is an important part of being an inclusive community.
